Woking Borough Council

Improved network security Enabling PSN compliancy

The Background

The Borough of Woking is a local government district with borough status in the west of Surrey, England. It was formed in 1895 as an urban district under the Local Government Act 1894. Woking Borough Council’s head office is located in the town of Woking, just outside the town square in the Civic Offices.

The Challenge

As new regulatory changes were introduced by the government, Woking Borough Council wanted to become Public Services Network (PSN) compliant. Not being PSN compliant would mean being removed from the network, which wasn’t an option.

The Solution

Daisy worked with Woking Borough Council to review the infrastructure, and the flow of information through the network for users accessing the PSN network. Daisy designed a solution that ensured compliancy, and was ratified by the PSN assessor first hand.

A dual-skinned wall garden security solution was designed. Woking Borough Council now had a separated wireless network that kept all its PSN traffic on a dedicated network throughout its transit across the network.

The Result

Woking Borough Council has been assigned a service manager and dedicated desk-based support manager. This team ensures that Daisy remains accountable for the delivery throughout the life of the contract. Daisy’s solution has now ensured that Woking Borough Council is PSN certified. Now this critical issue has been resolved, Woking Borough Council’s IT team can now return their focus on achieving its technological objectives.
