Apprenticeships at Daisy

Daisy Corporate Service’s apprenticeships are tailored to providing people with the skills they need to succeed in the technology industry. Dedicated to providing apprentices with perfect working environment, the Daisy team is perfectly placed to teach the skills needed to bridge the digital knowledge gap.

Working side-by-side with some of the most brilliant minds within the business, our apprentices are able to progress quickly with constant support.

To celebrate National Apprenticeship Week 2019, we introduce five apprentices with very diverse skillsets to give insight into life at Daisy.

A day in the life of…

Dion Coley

Apprentice Project Manager

My apprenticeship is an amazing opportunity to gain a foundation degree level qualification, whilst gaining experience (not to mention the fact that I can earn a wage at the same time). My experience here at Daisy so far has been excellent… allowing my personal development to skyrocket.
I have been with Daisy since August 2018 where I am currently about a quarter of the way through a Level 4 apprenticeship in Project Management. This is a two-year course run by a training provider called Babington.
In late 2017 I was approaching the end of my time studying 3 A Levels at sixth form, and I could tell university was deemed to be the ‘standard’ option. As a lot of people that I had grown up with had their hearts set on leaving West Yorkshire to go onto studying courses at various universities around the UK, I felt that I wanted something different to continuous classroom-based learning.

It was a short time later that I applied for this apprenticeship – it was immediately clear that this was an amazing opportunity to gain a foundation degree level qualification, whilst gaining experience within a massively successful organisation (not to mention the fact that I could earn a wage at the same time)!

My experience at Daisy so far has been excellent. I am a firm member of a great team of very talented project managers and coordinators, and this allows my personal development to skyrocket. I am now focussing on project management skills and developing these, both through guidance from the team at Daisy, as well as using the convenient online apprenticeship course.

One of the most recent developments in my role has been my first site visit – I had the privilege of accompanying the brilliant Mr Robert Godsell to a customer ‘go live’ day, and this has provided me with an invaluable insight as to how projects provide real life benefits to stakeholders.

My ambition by the end of my course is to be in a position where I’d feel confident applying for a project manager position here at Daisy. Of course this is going to take a massive amount of hard work from myself, but seeing the successes of the rest of the projects team keeps me massively motivated to get to that point.

Erin Butcher, PMO team leader has this to say: “Dion joined the team and really hit the ground running. He quickly picked up the basics of the role and continues to develop his understanding of projects and Daisy to a level where he supports other members of the team and the wider projects department. Dion is an asset to our team and should be proud of himself for all he has achieved in such a short space of time. I look forward to supporting Dion for the remainder of his apprenticeship.”

James Harrison

Regulatory Analyst, Legal and Compliance

I had already worked at Daisy 9 years before I started my apprenticeship, which offers me development in communication skills, teamwork, problem-solving and planning. As well as new experiences and knowledge in a specialist area.
I have worked for Daisy for 9 years, I have always worked in quality type roles, from validating sales appointments, quality checking verbal sales calls and providing feedback to customer service agents with the aim of improving the customer journey. In 2016 I joined the Compliance team as a Regulatory Analyst. As part of my ongoing development, I was given the opportunity to enroll on a Level 6 Senior Risk and Compliance Specialist apprenticeship which is facilitated by the Credit Services Association.
This 36 month apprenticeship offered the ability to further develop my skills in communication, teamwork, problem solving and planning. Not only is doing something like this perfect for my personal development, but it also brings added experience and knowledge to the compliance team and to Daisy as a whole.
The first 6 months of the apprenticeship have been challenging but also equally rewarding. Over a number of assignments and essays I have researched topics ranging from the 2008 financial crisis, to how Daisy’s products and services differ from those of our competitors. The course tutor has been really helpful, offering advice, research tips and giving really constructive feedback on the work I have submitted. Over the next 12 months, as part of the apprenticeship, I will be completing an Anti-Money Laundering diploma with the International Compliance Association, which will further ensure that Daisy has the skills needed to be remain compliant with financial crime regulations.

I believe it is a privilege to be given this opportunity and aim to develop myself and add as much knowledge to the compliance team as possible over this 36 month apprenticeship.

Apprentice CSI Analyst

The work I do both for Daisy and the apprenticeship company both feed into each other so I’m able to build on what I’ve learnt. Daisy has sent me on multiple courses, even ones outside my apprenticeship, so I can develop as a team member and build up my skills. I’m really happy at my current job and can’t wait to see how my career develops.
I have been at Daisy for about 6 months and started my apprenticeship in September 2018, which is an Improvement Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship with RHG consultancy and the apprenticeship will last 14 months. I work in the department responsible for Continuous Service Improvement, we work across all areas of the business to drive improvements and quality of service. This includes productivity, efficiencies and potentially even customer satisfaction.
I had finished university in June and began looking for work. I applied for many roles across the country until one day I saw an advertisement for Daisy. The offer looked really good and promised lots of great benefits like full on-the-job training, a competitive salary and room to develop and grow my skills and career. Both RHG and Daisy have made an incredible effort to ensure my apprenticeship has been successful and I’m constantly being engaged regarding work and progress. Daisy has sent me on multiple courses, even ones outside my apprenticeship, so I can develop as a team member and build up my skills.
I’m really enjoying it, both the apprenticeship agency and the staff at Daisy are very kind and helpful. Everyone has made an effort to ensure that I’ve understood something and are always available if I need help. The workflow has been challenging but manageable and I’m always excited to see what new things I’ll be learning. The work I do both for Daisy and the apprenticeship company both feed into each other so I’m able to build on what I’ve learnt and constantly make my work better. I’ve been enrolled on Six Sigma and Project Management courses to help develop my skills for the future and so I can better undertake responsibilities in my role.

In terms of what’s next, through Daisy I am currently undertaking various courses, not only ones revolving around my apprenticeship and I’m excited to see where these go as they can open a lot of opportunities for me later on in my career. I’m really happy at my current job and everyone I work with and I can’t wait to see how my career develops.

Regulatory Analyst, Legal and Compliance

My apprenticeship has allowed me to develop my skills and insight, as well as gain a valuable relevant industry qualification.
I have been with Daisy for over 5 years. My apprenticeship is Level 6 Governance, Risk and Compliance with the CSA for a period of 3 years.
To further develop my skills within the subject area and widen my knowledge base, while obtaining an industry relevant qualification.
My apprenticeship has been insightful with the varied and different course content. It has helped provide me with another perspective on how to tackle challenges in my day to day role.

Ryan Chamberlain

Apprentice CSI Analyst

I believe the benefits of an apprenticeship like this are endless. The skills in which I will take away will be techniques I can use it all walks of life, not just in employment. The experience so far has been extremely positive. The people I have met from the apprenticeship provider have been really supportive.
I am an Apprentice Continual Service Improvement (CSI) Analyst. My Apprenticeship is Improvement Technician Level 3 with RHG consultancy which runs for 14 months. I have been at Daisy 6 months and work in the Continual Service Improvement function.
The apprenticeship appealed to me because of many characteristics. Firstly, Daisy as a company has very good recommendations and I had a local office not far from where I live. Also, I had never heard of an apprenticeship like this previously and improvement as a whole is something every business requires due to how fast business requirements change.

I believe the benefits of an apprenticeship like this are endless. The skills in which I will take away from will be techniques I can use it all walks of life, not just in employment. The connection of the apprenticeship and my hobbies such as football management, will also help support my development.

The experience so far has been extremely positive. The people I have met from the apprenticeship provider have been really supportive. The modules that are involved in apprenticeship scheme are engaging and interesting because I can relate to some of them but on the other hand, some are complete new knowledge areas.

Continual Service Improvement as a department was something that was new to me. But the modules I have gone through so far have been very supportive. For example, you require a plan for each CSI in which are assigned to individuals. The project management module I have recently completed has given me the skills and techniques to set out a full plan of how to go about my CSIs.

When I think of the future, my ambition in the short term is to become a CSI manager at Daisy. Long term is to move out into football management. The skills from the apprenticeship have already been beneficial in both roles so hopefully the more I learn and pick up, the more benefits I get on both fronts.

Apprenticeship opportunities await.
